The grain of the rock is wrong for the mine it sits in - something else settled into these veins first, and Assay Row exists to read what that something left behind.<br /> <br /> == Overview ==<br /> Assay Row&#039;s first bay is the on-ramp: the alcove carries no level gate, and the mine beyond it stays deliberately light. The workings run two levels, an upper network at the surface and a lower wing reached through one connecting chamber, both scattered with veins of Drift crystal running through it in every colour.<br /> <br /> == Inhabitants ==<br /> The vein is worked over by [[Diamond Spall]], three tinted color variants of the same creature all sharing that one display name - a white, a purple, and a blue banding of the same prismatic mineral. All three fight identically.<br /> <br /> == Harvest ==<br /> Every Diamond Spall killed leaves behind a Raw Drift Crystal - a guaranteed drop, not a chance roll. [[Grainwright Alys Fenn]], stationed at the alcove, wants ten of them to read the banding and teach the [[Prismatic Drift Stone]]. Handing over fewer than ten sends you back to gather more; nothing is lost by falling short. Once she has read ten, the crystals are spent and the teaching is done for good on that character.<br /> <br /> == Access ==<br /> The &#039;&#039;&#039;Peculiar Stone&#039;&#039;&#039; portal sits in Assay Row&#039;s bay 1 alcove, directly in front of Grainwright Alys Fenn. Inside the mine, a return portal named &#039;&#039;&#039;Surface&#039;&#039;&#039; waits on each of the two levels.
