'''Quest stamps''' are a running record of how many different quests your account has ever taken on, and they buy permanent travel gems from a clerk in the Marketplace.

== What it is ==

Every quest in Dereth is worth exactly one stamp, the first time you touch it. Grinding the same quest for the hundredth time earns you nothing new; walking into a quest you have never done before earns you a stamp. The count is a measure of ''variety'', not repetition, and it never goes down.

Stamps are counted per account, not per character. Every character you own feeds the same pool, and a character you roll tomorrow inherits the whole total the moment it logs in.

== Earning stamps ==

You earn a stamp the first time a given quest is recorded for your character. That can happen either when an NPC hands the quest to you or when you complete it, whichever comes first for that quest. Repeat completions of a quest you have already stamped add nothing.

Each stamp announces itself in teal in your chat window, naming the quest and your account's running total:

You've earned a quest stamp: [quest name]. (Account total: 137)

== Checking your progress ==

Type <code>/quests</code> anywhere in the world. It reports four things, for example:

Quest stamps: 84 (account total: 137)
Next reward at 250 (113 to go).
Reward tiers claimed: Tier1 yes, Tier2 no, Tier3 no

* the stamps this character has earned on its own,
* the account total that the rewards are paid against,
* the next reward threshold and how far off it is,
* which reward tiers ''this'' character has already claimed.

Once every threshold is behind you, the second line reads ''All reward tiers reached.''

== Deed-Counter Watari Jun ==

Watari Jun is a Sho deed-counter who keeps his ledger in the Marketplace, in the travel alcove beside the portals. He hands things out and takes nothing in; there is no item to give him and no fee to pay. Use him and he reads your account's total, then pays out whatever you have earned.

He counts the deeds of your line rather than of any one traveller, which is his way of saying the total is shared across your characters. If you have not reached the next mark yet he simply says so and goes back to his brush:

One conversation pays out every tier you have crossed. Talk to Watari Jun at 500 stamps and you walk away with all three gems at once. Each character claims each tier once, so an alt on a 500-stamp account collects the full set the first time it visits him, and a character that already claimed the first tier picks up only what it is still owed.

== Using the gems ==

All three behave the same way.

* '''They are never consumed.''' Use one as often as you like; it does not stack down, wear out or vanish.
* '''They move you at once.''' There is no recall stance to sit through and nothing to interrupt.
* '''They are attuned.''' They cannot be traded, handed to another player or dropped, and they stay with you on death. The set is yours per character, permanently.
* '''They will not fire in combat.''' Break off the fight first.
* '''The Town Network and Drift gems will not fire from inside each other's halls.''' The two networks mirror one another, so use the portals to leave one before calling the other. The Marketplace gem has no such restriction.

== Tips ==

* Breadth beats depth. A dozen quests you have never tried are worth twelve stamps; a dozen repeats of a favourite are worth none.
* Accepting a quest already counts, so picking up a quest you never finish still moves your total.
* Your alts are working for you whether you plan it or not. Any character that has ever run a quest has already banked stamps toward the same account total.
* Check <code>/quests</code> before making the trip to the Marketplace; the third line tells you whether there is anything left for this character to claim.
