QuestsBanded Adit

Platewright Odell Marsh is the Meridian platewright stationed at Assay Row's second alcove. He teaches Tiger Eye, the armor twin of Alys Fenn's drift stone, to anyone who fills his phial for him.

Overview

Odell Marsh stands at bay 2, in front of the Banded Adit portal. His bench works armor rather than weapons: he wants a piece that has never been tinkered before, and turns away anything already worked.

Quest

Odell has no prerequisite - he does not require Alys Fenn's teaching or any other bay's completion first.

He hands over a Lampstone Phial, a near-empty vessel, only if you are not already carrying one. Taking it through Banded Adit and personally landing the killing blow on a Lampstone Golem adds one charge to the phial, guaranteed, per kill - a companion or a pet finishing the golem leaves the phial untouched. The phial holds 20 charges; bring it back full and Odell reads the banding and teaches Tiger Eye, handing over the working hammer used to apply it directly. A phial that is not yet full is simply handed straight back, with nothing lost, and a player who somehow loses the phial can just ask Odell for another.

There is no experience award, no trade notes, and no Class Ability Points for this turn-in - the reward is the Tiger Eye hammer itself.

The teaching is once-only per character. Talking to Odell again afterward only gets the same closing line - there is nothing further to give.

Dialogue

Greeting:

"Armor is my bench. Bring me a piece nothing has been done to yet and I will show you what tiger eye makes of it. Bring me one already worked and there is nothing here for you."

Handing over the phial, if you are not already carrying one:

"Take this phial through the Banded Adit. Every lampstone golem you break yourself leaves a little of its light in the glass; one your companions break leaves nothing, so it has to be your own arm. Bring it back full and I will read the banding for you."

If you already have a phial and ask again:

"You have the phial already. It only takes light in the Banded Adit, and only from a golem you put down yourself - stand back and let a companion do it and the glass stays empty. Come back when it will hold no more."

Turning in a phial that is not yet full:

"Not yet. There is more light down that adit than you have caught, and I will not read a half-filled glass. Keep it and go back down."

Turning in a full phial:

"Full, and the banding in it reads true. Here is what tiger eye makes of armor. It fills the piece and then closes it - every slot spent at once, and obsidian will not touch it afterward. Take it to something nothing has been done to yet, and be certain before you do, because there is no second reading of the same plate."

Once already taught:

"You have the hammer and you know what tiger eye does. The bench has nothing else that is yours to take."
