QuestsThe Unbidden Door (Shoushi)

Ando Shiraiwa is the Driftwarden of Shoushi - a net-mender who woke to find a door standing in the air by his well, and pays adventurers to thin what pours out of it and to bring down the thing that leads them.

Overview

Ando has mended nets by the same Shoushi well since he was a boy. The door behind him has stood four days without moving or closing. His quest runs in two stages: first thin the drift-touched pack, then hunt the keeper that holds it together. Only the keeper's token earns a Driftwarden's Mark; the thinning earns his thanks and an XP award of its own.

Quest: The Unbidden Door (Shoushi)

  • Stage 1 - thin the pack: kill the drift-touched behind the Shoushi door (up to 15). Ando tracks your progress; clearing them pays a combat XP award worth 100% of a level, up to level 25 and opens the second stage.
  • Stage 2 - the keeper: defeat Kaede the Kinbinder and bring Ando her Calling-Horn. Pays one Driftwarden's Mark, plus a further 100% of a level, up to level 25 in XP.
  • Repeatable: every 20 hours.
  • Level range: 10-15.

Dialogue

On first speaking with him:

"I have mended nets by this well since I was a boy. There is a door standing in the air behind me. It has been there four days, it does not move, and it does not close."
"Go in and thin them. I cannot pay you in coin, but I can pay you in a Mark, and the provisioner honors it. That is the best four frightened people could manage."
"But thinning them is not the whole of it. There is one down there that keeps them, and they listen to her. Bring me something off her and the Mark is yours; the thinning earns my thanks and nothing more."

As you thin the pack:

"They are still in there. Come back when there are fewer of them."
"They are fewer, and I can see it from here. I have no Mark for that, only my thanks. Bring me something off the one that keeps them and I will have more than thanks."

On bringing back the keeper's token:

"Fewer. Good. Take the Mark to the provisioner, and ask after the doors if you pass through Holtburg or Yaraq or Sanamar; each town has its own, each opens on somewhere different."
