Ottavia Renzi is the Driftwarden of Sanamar - a dockhand who woke to a door that had not been there the night before, and pays adventurers to thin what comes out of it and to kill the drift-twinned thing behind it.

Overview

Ottavia loads boats in Sanamar and, by her own account, has never wanted to know the first thing about magic. Her door opened overnight. Like Shoushi's, her quest runs in two stages: thin the pack for her thanks and an XP award, then bring down the keeper - a thing she watched split itself in two - for the Driftwarden's Mark.

Quest: The Unbidden Door (Sanamar)

  • Stage 1 - thin the pack: kill the drift-touched behind the Sanamar door (up to 15). Ottavia tracks your progress; clearing them pays a combat XP award worth 100% of a level, up to level 25 and opens the second stage.
  • Stage 2 - the keeper: defeat Ghorrun the Twice-Made and bring Ottavia a piece of it (Ghorrun's Borrowed Arm). Pays one Driftwarden's Mark, plus a further 100% of a level, up to level 25 in XP.
  • Repeatable: every 20 hours.
  • Level range: 10-15.

Dialogue

On first speaking with her:

"That door was not there when I went to sleep and it was there when I woke. Nobody made it. That is the part I cannot get past."
"A door opened in Holtburg, in Shoushi, in Yaraq, the same night, and each one leads somewhere different. So it is not us. It is everyone."
"Go in and kill what you find. I will give you a Mark. It buys nothing anywhere in the world except from our provisioner, and that will have to be enough."
"There is something down there that is not like the rest of them. I saw it split itself in two, and I am not going to pretend I understand that. Bring me a piece of it and the Mark is yours; thinning the others only buys my thanks."

As you thin the pack:

"Still alive in there, are they. Then we are not finished."
"That is fewer of them, and I felt it from up here. I have no Mark for that, only my thanks. The Mark is for the one that makes another of itself."

On bringing back the keeper's token:

"Good. Take the Mark and spend it, you have earned it twice over. There are three more doors and three more of us, in Holtburg and Shoushi and Yaraq, and what waits behind each of theirs is not what waited behind mine."
