| Role | Spell tutor (all five schools) |
|---|---|
| Location | Marketplace |
Vaelith the Omni-School Professor is the Marketplace's spell tutor: one NPC who teaches the taught spell lists of all five magic schools, levels I through VII, and charges pyreals rather than trade notes. He stands on the market floor near Ilseriane the Recollector, in black scholar's robes.
Each town's school professors teach exactly one school apiece and price their lessons in trade notes counted out of your pack. Vaelith teaches from the very same curricula - his lists, requirements and rates are the professors' own - but he takes the equivalent in coin, and he can reach into your bank for it. The professors keep their posts; Vaelith is simply the one-stop version.
How to use him
Tell him the school and the level you want, in plain words:
/t Vaelith, war 3/t Vaelith, life magic 1/t Vaelith, creature seven
He understands the five schools (war, creature, item, life, void, with or without the full retail name) and levels 1 through 7 in digits or words. Clicking on him repeats these instructions, and a garbled request gets a short usage reply rather than a bill.
Before anything is charged he checks three things:
- Your skill. Each level asks a minimum in the matching school's skill - the same gate the professors use.
- What you already know. If the level would teach you nothing new, he says so and charges nothing. If you know part of the list, he tells you how many spells will be new - but the price buys the level's whole list, so a half-known level costs the same as a fresh one.
- Your funds. Pack coin is counted first, then banked pyreals. If you cannot cover it, he names the price and both balances.
Then he asks a plain yes/no naming the spell count and the price. On yes, every spell of that school and level is yours in one purple flourish.
Requirements and prices
The skill minimum per level, in the matching school's skill:
| Level | I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skill required | 1 | 10 | 50 | 100 | 150 | 200 | 250 |
Prices in pyreals, per school and level. These are the professors' own rates converted to coin, read from their ledgers on the spot - if a professor's price ever changes, Vaelith's follows automatically:
| Level | War | Creature | Item | Life | Void |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | 2,000 | 5,000 | 2,000 | 5,000 | 1,000 |
| II | 5,000 | 20,000 | 10,000 | 15,000 | 2,000 |
| III | 40,000 | 75,000 | 50,000 | 75,000 | 10,000 |
| IV | 200,000 | 500,000 | 200,000 | 250,000 | 50,000 |
| V | 400,000 | 750,000 | 400,000 | 500,000 | 100,000 |
| VI | 2,000,000 | 5,000,000 | 2,000,000 | 3,000,000 | 500,000 |
| VII | 4,000,000 | 10,000,000 | 4,000,000 | 6,000,000 | 1,000,000 |
Void is the cheapest school by far at every rung, and Creature the dearest; a complete seven-level education in all five schools runs a little over 41 million pyreals.
