Serpentine Colossus is the guardian Grain Quarry's deep vein wakes the instant its seam is mined out, a mass of animate green-veined stone standing well above the quarrying crew around it.
Overview
The Colossus is not placed anywhere in the quarry beforehand. It exists only as the second thing a Serpentine Seam site produces: the seam itself first, and then - the moment that seam is destroyed by mining - the Colossus, at the very same spot. There is no warning beyond the seam giving out; working the vein is what calls it.
It stands well above the height of the quarry's own Quarriers and Hewers, built from the same mineral the seam yields rather than the Lugian stock the rest of the crew is drawn from - a different order of thing entirely from the miners a party has likely just been fighting through.
Fight
It fights purely by weight of arms rather than magic, hitting harder and holding more health than anything else stationed in the quarry. Its stone body shrugs off physical damage and is especially unbothered by fire and cold, so there is no elemental shortcut through the encounter.
Drops
Killing it always yields one Serpentine Heartstone - not a chance, a guarantee - which is the item Ulgrath the Grain-Reader actually wants for his own teaching. The quarry's ordinary Pure Serpentine Ore keeps dropping from mining as normal and does not come from this fight.
