Grainwright Alys Fenn is the Meridian grainwright stationed at Assay Row's first alcove. She keeps the dead-stone specimen catalogue and teaches the Prismatic Drift Stone to anyone who brings her enough raw material to read.
Overview
Alys Fenn stands at bay 1, in front of the Peculiar Stone portal. She is the first stop on the Row, and her greeting doubles as the wall's own warning: nothing taught here can be undone once it is used.
Quest
Alys has no prerequisite - she is the first craftsperson on Assay Row's chain, and nothing gates a visit to her.
Bring her ten Raw Drift Crystal, harvested from Diamond Spall kills through the Peculiar Stone portal (a guaranteed drop, one per kill). Handing over fewer than ten sends you back for more, with nothing lost. Once she has ten, she reads the banding and teaches the Prismatic Drift Stone, handing over one directly - a single-use tinkering tool that permanently seals whatever weapon it is used on.
There is no experience award, no trade notes, and no Class Ability Points for this turn-in - the reward is the Prismatic Drift Stone itself.
The teaching is once-only per character. Talking to Alys again afterward, or trying to turn in more crystals, only gets the same closing line - there is nothing further to give.
Dialogue
Greeting:
- "This is the Assay Row. We read what the doors leave on metal, and we teach what to do about it. Understand before you start that nothing this wall teaches can be undone afterward. Begin here; the benches south of me assume you have."
Explaining the task, before you have ten crystals:
- "The Peculiar Stone standing in this alcove is a door, not a rock. Step into it and you are in the new Isparian workings. What holds that mine now is nothing the diggers left behind, so go in ready, not curious. Bring me ten pieces of raw Drift crystal off what you put down and I will read the banding for you."
Turning in fewer than ten:
- "That is not ten. I will not read a partial set; go back into the workings and finish the count."
Turning in ten or more:
- "Ten pieces, and the banding on every one reads true. Here is what the Row makes of dead stone that was never really dead. Know what it does before you spend it: a blade this finishes is finished. Its tinkering is sealed, no salvage reopens it, and no bench on this Row will take it back."
Once already taught:
- "The catalogue already has your specimens read. Nothing more of mine to give you there."
