Assay Row

Assay Row is the west wall of the Drift Network south wing, standing across the hall from the six-door Meridian ladder. Seven alcoves run its length, each holding a portal to a mine or quarry and a Meridian craftsperson who trades a collection task for a lesson: six of them each teach one of the fork's crafting materials - Prismatic, Tiger Eye, Tourmaline, Serpentine, Amethyst and Obsidian - and hand over the tool that works it. The seventh and last alcove has no material of its own; it closes the wall out with a two-boss fight and a single Class Ability Point.

The chain

Six of the seven bays run in a fixed order: Prismatic -> Tourmaline -> Serpentine -> Amethyst -> Obsidian -> Firecut. Each portal from bay 3 onward refuses entry until the previous bay's material has been taught, so the row can only be walked in that sequence, and Firecut itself additionally refuses until Obsidian - the last material on the chain - has been taught.

Bay 2 is not part of that chain. Its only requirement is character level; it can be walked at any point once a character is high enough, independent of how far the rest of the row has been worked. A character can teach themselves Tiger Eye first, last, or anywhere in between.

Materials and benches

Prismatic is the Prismatic Drift Stone itself: a single-use stone that sets a rending matching the weapon's strongest damage type, adds a few strokes of extra edge-work, and permanently closes that weapon to any further tinkering.

Tiger Eye is the armor-side twin of the Drift Stone: worked into a never-tinkered piece of armor it lays in one to five steel armor tinkers at once and settles a single equipment mod besides, then permanently closes the piece to any further tinkering, obsidian included.

Tourmaline feeds Weapon Mods, redrawing a weapon's whole set of special modifiers at once.

Serpentine feeds Serpentine Salvage, rerolling an item's enchantments rather than its mods or modifiers - the one material on the wall that works on both weapons and armor alike.

Amethyst also feeds Weapon Mods, but more narrowly: where Tourmaline redraws the whole set, Amethyst swaps a single modifier at a time.

Obsidian also feeds Equipment Mods, converting a piece's gear ratings into mods outright, or rerolling mods a piece already carries.

None of these materials is sold anywhere. Assay Row's craftspeople hand over a full ten-charge Hammer of their material as a one-time reward, and after that you make the salvage yourself out of loot, exactly as you would for ordinary tinkering - see Custom Crafting for where each one drops, and the Salvage Forge for turning loose bags back into a Hammer.
