Coriel the Anchor-Clerk is the Meridian clerk who stands in the Drift Network hall beside the door into The Iron Sill, paying adventurers by the head to keep the leakage down.

Overview

The Meridian cannot close the door The Iron Sill names, so it does the next best thing: it pins the worst of what comes through, garrisons the hall, and pays to have the creatures inside thinned. Coriel is the clerk who keeps that count. Talk to him and he sets you a tally for whichever hall you name, or for the thing in the sanctum. Kill your count, come back, and he pays. Every tally resets a day after you claim it, so his work is never finished and neither is yours.

Tallies

Coriel offers four kill tallies, one for each hall of The Iron Sill plus one for its boss. Each is repeatable: once you turn it in, the tally becomes available again after a day. Every tally pays the same reward, a large experience payment scaled to your level (effectively a full level's worth of advancement), so the lighter halls are worth running for the sheer speed of the kills.

Tally Hall / target Count Cadence Reward
Top hall Iron-Gorged Grievver and its kin (Heavy) 250 Repeatable every 20 hours Level-scaled experience
Middle hall Gilded Shade and its kin (Medium) 500 Repeatable every 20 hours Level-scaled experience
Bottom hall Tarnished Carenzi and its kin (Light) 1,000 Repeatable every 20 hours Level-scaled experience
Sanctum The Anchor-Gorged (boss) 1 Repeatable every 20 hours Level-scaled experience

The counts climb as the creatures get weaker, so a full tally on any hall takes a comparable amount of effort. These are long-horizon tallies rather than single-session tasks, especially the thousand-strong bottom hall.

Dialogue

Greeting Coriel opens the choice of hall:

"I count what leaks and pay by the head. Tell me which hall and I will set your tally."

Naming a hall sets the count. For the top hall:

"You are for the top hall. The gold ones - the big ones. Two hundred and fifty, and mind the sting."

For the middle hall:

"The middle hall, then. The gilded ones, the walking coins. Five hundred. They fall easy; there are just a great many."

For the bottom hall:

"The bottom hall. The tarnished ones swarm thick down there - a thousand of them, and you will still not clear it. Thin them anyway."

And for the sanctum:

"And the thing in the sanctum. The Anchor-Gorged. It has our iron in it and it is not giving it back. Put it down."

While a tally is still short, he waves you back to it:

"Still counting your Grievvers. Return when the tally is full."

When the count is full he pays:

"That is the count for the top hall, where the big ones nest. The Meridian pays as promised."

And once paid, until the tally resets:

"You have had your due for the top hall, where the big ones nest today. The tally resets in a day; come back then."
