A Meridian Sentinel

The Meridian soldiers are the garrison the Meridian keeps in the south wing of the Drift Network hall: two Sentinels, two Marksmen, and three Warders, all peaceful and none of them attackable. They hold the branch the six south wing doors open off of, but they do not fight for you, or at all.

Overview

The soldiers are set dressing for how seriously the Meridian takes a wing full of doors it cannot close: two Marksmen stand fixed at the branch's mouth, two Sentinels walk its length along the alcove doors, and three Warders hold the centre of the floor in a slow-turning triangle, watching the row from the middle. None of them will draw on a player under any circumstance; their presence reads as a garrison, not a threat.

Meridian Sentinel

A Meridian Marksman

Two Sentinels patrol the branch's outer edges, one along each side, walking the full length past every alcove door and turning back at each end. They pass each other mid-branch rather than moving in lockstep, so the two are never in step with one another.

"The Meridian holds this hall, and I am how it holds it. Stand where you like, but not between me and the doors. Move along when you are done."

Meridian Marksman

Two Marksmen stand fixed at the mouth of the branch, one on each side, facing straight down the row of doors. Unlike the Sentinels they do not patrol; they are posted.

"I keep a clear line on every door in this row, and I would rather not lose it. Give the anchor-irons a wide berth and we will have no quarrel. The Meridian counts careful visitors kindly."
"Both sides of this mouth are watched, and my partner is better than me. Keep your hands where the Meridian can count them. Then you and I have no business."

Meridian Warder

A Meridian Warder

Three Warders hold the centre of the branch in a triangle formation, one at the north apex and two forming the southern base. None of them walk; each rotates slowly in place to sweep the row of doors on both sides.

"The doors leak, and watching what leaks is my post. Do not touch the anchor-irons; they are for the Meridian to reckon, not you. Meddle, and you will be reckoned among them."
"Three of us stand here because one is not enough to watch a row that leaks. Keep to the middle of the floor and you will not trouble us. The Meridian prefers a quiet count."
"I have the east row, she has the west, and the apex has whatever comes through the mouth. Nothing here is closed, only held. Walk on."
