The Miscount is the boss of Miscounted Door, the single thing that has kept the warren's census from ever balancing.
Overview
It carries no family prefix and no kin - a singular thing, not a stronger version of the Wisps and Zephyrs that share its warren. It does not appear on its own; the warren's Tally Stone summons it once a settled census calls it out of hiding, which is the only reason anyone has ever laid eyes on it at all. Where its trash shows nothing wrong to the eye, the Miscount is the thing the census was always actually counting - the one entry that never should have registered, and the reason the number kept coming back off by one.
Mechanics
The Miscount does not speak while the fight is underway; there is no wounded-taunt line at any point in the fight. It says exactly one thing, and only once, the moment it dies:
- "Now the number is wrong the other way."
Fought straightforwardly rather than in phases - there is no mid-fight escalation, only the single line that closes it out.
Access
The Miscount cannot be found wandering Miscounted Door. It is summoned at the Tally Stone in the warren's deep vault, and only once a character's kill-tally against the Lattice-Bent trash has reached twenty-five. See Miscounted Door for the exact census steps and Census-Warden Hakim al-Sabri for the reward paid on its death.
