Miscounted Door is the fifth rung of the Drift Network south wing ladder, a sprawling shadow-and-wisp warren built for characters around level 62 and up. Every census the Meridian takes of this warren comes back off by one. The clerks re-count anyway.
Overview
The warren stacks four floors: a deep vault, the main level where you arrive and where the way out waits, and two upper shelves climbing above it. Something in the warren registers on the tally sheets and is not there when the counters actually look for it, and this is the rung where a careful player first feels the shape of the lattice underneath the drift: the trash here is bent along lines you cannot quite see.
The warren is thick with two kinds of drifting things, Lattice-Bent Wisp and Lattice-Bent Zephyr, spread unevenly across all four floors with the heaviest concentration in the deep vault.
The census
Miscounted Door does not hand you a straightforward kill count and a turn-in. Its Meridian clerk, Census-Warden Hakim al-Sabri, sends you in to correct a tally that has never once balanced:
- Kill twenty-five of the drifting Lattice-Bent things anywhere in the warren. Both the Wisps and the Zephyrs count toward the same total.
- Once the tally is full, carry it down to the Tally Stone standing in the deep vault and press your hand to it. The stone does not lie about a total the way the clerk might.
- The stone answers by summoning The Miscount to itself. Kill it and report back to Hakim al-Sabri.
Once your tally has reached twenty-five for the first time, the Tally Stone stays willing: on each later visit (after the day's count has reset) it will summon the Miscount again without asking for a fresh twenty-five, so the loop afterward is a straightforward boss-and-report cycle rather than a repeated warren-wide hunt.
If you press your hand to the stone before your tally is full, it only tells you the count is still wrong and sends you back to the warren.
Inhabitants
- Lattice-Bent Wisp and Lattice-Bent Zephyr - the drifting warren trash, thickest in the vault and thinning toward the top shelf.
- The Miscount - the boss, summoned rather than encountered, at the Tally Stone in the vault.
Boss
The Miscount does not lurk anywhere in the warren on its own; it exists only because the Tally Stone calls it into being once the census is settled. It says nothing when it appears, and it speaks only once, at the very end.
Access
The entrance is a door set into an alcove in the south wing of the Drift Network hall, kept by Census-Warden Hakim al-Sabri. Stepping through drops you into the main level of the warren; a return portal named Surface near the exit brings you back to the hall aisle facing the alcove door. The door itself is open to anyone; the census work inside is what Census-Warden Hakim al-Sabri sends you to do.
Completing the census pays a large, level-scaled experience reward on a repeating cadence, and grants the Meridian Collar of Seven Arts once, the first time you settle the count. See Census-Warden Hakim al-Sabri for the exact shape of the reward.
