Assay-Warden Vittorio Sarra keeps the last entry in the Assay Row ledger. He does not run a bench like the six craftspeople behind him - he only reads what the wall has already taught, and closes the book once it has.

Overview

Vittorio stands at the end of the row, past Glasswright Rin Kuroda's bench, holding a piece of iron he will not give up and will not explain. He carries no material of his own to teach; everything Assay Row exists to teach was cut for the sake of this one artifact, called First Iron, and Vittorio is the one who decides whether a given character is equipped to have it read to them.

Quest

Vittorio's ledger check runs in three stages, each gating the next:

  1. Prerequisite - the character must already hold every material the wall teaches, proven by having completed Glasswright Rin Kuroda's obsidian bench, the last and hardest-gated of the six. Without it, Vittorio refuses outright and sends the character back down the row.
  2. Both Firecut bosses dead - the Bloomfire Exarch and the Clarity Suzerain must each be slain. Kill credit is shared with your fellowship: whoever damaged a boss, and anyone in range grouped with them, is credited, not only the player who lands the final blow. Each boss is checked in order, with its own refusal line naming whichever one is still standing.
  3. The reading - once both are down, Vittorio delivers his line about First Iron, hands over a Meridian Commendation - a single-use gem good for one Class Ability Point when used - and closes the entry for good.

The grant is once only, ever, per character. A second visit after completion finds nothing further to say or give; there is no repeat and no partial credit for finishing the bosses without the prerequisite, or vice versa.

Dialogue

When the prerequisite (obsidian taught) is not yet met:

"The First Iron is not a thing you walk up to. This entry closes for someone who has read every bench behind you, and the wing has no such reading against your name. Work the Row through to Glasswright Rin Kuroda and her obsidian, then come and stand here again."

When the Bloomfire Exarch is still alive:

"The Bloomfire Exarch is still standing in the Firecut. I do not close an entry on a wall that is still being argued with. Put it down and come back."

When the Clarity Suzerain is still alive:

"The Clarity Suzerain still holds the platform. The Exarch was the half that hits; that one is the half that thinks, and it is the one that keeps the entry open. Finish it."

Once both bosses are dead, before the grant:

"This is First Iron, pulled out of the first door the Meridian ever pinned. Its grain matches nothing in the ledger and I have not closed the entry. You are not equipped for what reading it would take."

Handing over the Meridian Commendation:

"The iron gives you nothing and neither do I - there is nothing left here to take. But every tool on this wall came from your own two hands, and the wing does not usually enter a name for that. Yours goes in anyway."
