Firecut is the seventh and last alcove of Assay Row, the working the Meridian abandoned when its dig cut into a magma chamber. It carries no material of its own - the wall's six benches teach a mineral each, but Firecut only guards the thing they were all cut in service of.

Overview

The portal drops a party onto a raised stone platform at the true centre of a wide, ringed chamber. The platform sits about half a metre above a ring of open magma that surrounds it on every side, with the enclosing room stretching out beyond that. There is no climb and no maze here - the whole encounter is fought on and around this one platform.

The magma ring is a live hazard, not scenery. It burns for real fire damage on a short, repeating cycle to anyone standing in it, so the platform itself is the only safe ground. Two passages leave the chamber; both are sealed off, so the only way out once you arrive is the return portal on the platform.

The two bosses that hold Firecut are not stacked together. The Bloomfire Exarch works the magma ring itself, immune to the fire it stands in, while the Clarity Suzerain holds the platform directly among the party from the first moment. Expect two separately-targetable threats rather than one boss you can safely ignore while killing the other.

Inhabitants

  • Bloomfire Exarch - the melee half of the pair, a molten giant that fights from within the magma ring.
  • Clarity Suzerain - the caster half, a pure spellcaster that stands with the party on the platform.

Nothing else is placed in Firecut. Both bosses must fall before Assay-Warden Vittorio Sarra will close the wall's ledger.

Harvest

Firecut asks for no salvage. What it asks for instead:

  • Both bosses put down - the Bloomfire Exarch and the Clarity Suzerain, each crediting every player who damaged it and their in-range fellowship, not just the killing blow.
  • A reading of First Iron, the artifact this working was cut for - a piece of the anchor-iron the Meridian first drove at First Pin, pulled from this same dig. Vittorio holds it at the hall and reads it only to a character who has put both bosses down; that reading is the last step of the wall.

Return to Assay-Warden Vittorio Sarra at the Assay Row hall once both are dead - see his page for the ledger check and the reward.

Access

The entrance is the seventh portal in the Assay Row hall, gated to characters level 100 and up and restricted to players who have taught themselves obsidian at the sixth bench. Stepping through drops a party directly onto the platform; a Surface portal on the same platform returns them to the hall.
